Taiwan relies on sipped import for 97% of its energy.

Analyst Comment: For this reason, China’s most effective strategy is to implement a blockade of Taiwan. A direct invasion of a well-protected island nation is a logistical nightmare. A blockade would be much easier to implement and allow China to place substantial pressure on the nation to surrender without serious conflict. This is why China has been building out its presence in the South China Sea. As its navy is much smaller than that of the US, building small airstrips and bases in the South China Sea allows it to augment Naval forces.
