“Israel’s military confirmed Saturday that Hamas has seized control of some Israeli towns and cities near the Gaza Strip, following a major surprise attack by the Hamas terrorist group…

Hamas launched an unprecedented surprise assault Saturday morning that saw terrorists infiltrating Israeli territory and the Hamas terrorist group firing thousands of rockets from Gaza into the country.”

Analyst Comment: The attack is highly suspicious. Militants were able to cross the border with little to no resistance and successfully took several Israeli’s hostage. IDF forces were nowhere in sight along these contested border areas. Israeli police presence was limited. Further, Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system went down during the attack. It’s still early, but Israel may have allowed this attack to go forward without intervention to take attention away from domestic issues including mass opposition to judicial reform efforts by President Netanyahu.
